One of the great joys of container gardening is using balcony pots. Just imagine putting a few herbs on your balcony, or flowers if you have them. You don’t need to worry about pests and you can enjoy all your favorite varieties of plants. If you have a balcony that overlooks a patio or your garden, you could put a small pot on it and have a small apartment garden. Container gardening with balcony pots is the kind of gardening that’s simple, effective and attractive too.
If you are like me, growing plants on your balcony can be a real pain. It can be very cold in the evenings and the plants tend to die if they are left out in the cold for too long. It is a very difficult task for someone who has no gardening experience. However, with container gardening with balcony potting bench, it is possible to grow many plants easily. All you need is patience, diligence and a little bit of trial and error.
I used to have a lovely balcony that overlooked the back yard. I was able to grow many different varieties of flowers and vegetables because they were small and could fit into the tight spaces of the pot. But when I started using container garden with balcony pots, everything suddenly became very interesting. I didn’t have to worry about winter freezing the plants or the summer flowers wilt.
In fact, the only problem I ever had with having a balcony garden with container gardening was the ants. Ants are drawn to plants that are warm and full of nutrients. They will actually eat your plants, if you leave them uninvited. This is especially true of tomatoes and squash. You must make sure that your plants get enough nutrients every day so that they can grow and develop healthily.
Many gardeners think that just because a plant has room for air to circulate and get sunshine that it will be more likely to survive. That’s not necessarily so. It is better to take bigger containers than you think you need. Use two pots if you have a balcony that overlooks the street. One big container and one small container. You can use a square pot for balconies that look smaller because they have bigger openings.
Make sure that the plants you are going to use in your balcony container garden are not that hardy. If your climate is very hot, you may want to use plants that are not very adaptable. Hardy plants can be a good choice for balconies if you don’t mind taking care of them. There are some container gardens that are designed specifically to handle very hot weather. If your plant does not like to have its root system drenched in water, you should check to see if it will tolerate sitting in a dish of water in the sun.
The soil you choose for your container garden should also be compatible with your plants. It is important that you keep in mind what type of plant you have. A container garden can become a great source of food if you grow enough plants that can eat on each other. Your container should be a good medium for your plant to spread its roots on.
When you plant plants in balcony pots you do not want to over-water them. They should stay small and just get enough water every couple weeks. Over watering can kill plants or stunt their growth.
You should put a piece of wire over the rim of your container garden so that your plants will not try to stick their way out. They should grow directly over the wire. You will need to fill in any spaces between the rocks with dirt. You should only put in enough soil to completely cover the spaces.
You will want to fill the pot with dirt once your plants have developed enough roots. Always fill the pot with fresh soil. Once the pot is full, you will then want to put your plants into the pot. Just make sure they are properly rooted before putting them in the balcony pots.
Your plants will require consistent light. Keep this in mind when choosing the best materials for your balcony pots. You do not want plants that grow too well because of too much light. However, plants that do not get enough sunlight may still survive if you use balcony pots that allow more light to pass through them.
