Mason Jar Herb Garden – Easy Gardening

A simple, quick and enjoyable project that doubles as a useful culinary staple and doubles as a visual aesthetic addition is a Mason jar herb gardening. Many herbs are quite easy to grow, though others may require a bit more work. Some herbs only need a bit of extra love and attention; other herbs only need to be watered occasionally. However, most herbs can be easily grown in jars indoors in any number of containers. Mason jars are ideal for growing herbs because the container allows for good drainage.

To begin planting herbs in a mason jar, always select bulbs or seeds that have a hardiness that matches the kind of soil in your area. The best bulbs or seeds for planting in a mason jar are those that have been kept in an enclosed environment. Most outdoor herbs do not like moisture so they will not do well in an outdoors container. If you’re trying to grow an indoor plant from seeds, it’s important that you buy those that are durable seeds. However, if you’re planting an outdoor plant from seeds, you might be able to save some by taking a chance on them.

For many people, indoor herb gardens provide a relaxing space to write or read while watching television. Planting herbs inside their mason jars provides a similar atmosphere with a bit more structure to it. You can choose from a wide variety of herbs for your indoor mason jars. Some easy-care perennial herbs include basil, chives, chervil, coriander, oregano, Rosemary and thyme. Many of these are quite fragrant and will go into flower pots once they’ve gotten to know their spot in your mason jars.

For a more difficult-care perennial herb, try sage, tarragon, bay, or oregano. These herbs don’t grow well in the same conditions as the less hardy annual herbs do. They’re also much harder plants, so if you plan on replanting them you need to keep them indoors year round to avoid frost. Even then, you should only water them twice a week, because too much water can make them go to seed. Annual herbs like marjoram and basil don’t really require any watering at all. You can place all of your pots in your mason jar and just water them when you need to.

One thing to keep in mind when growing herbs inside their mason jars is that the soil mix needs to be rich with nutrients for them to thrive. Clay pots and pans aren’t very effective because they tend to hold moisture, which decreases the nutrients in the soil. The best pots are ones made of Terra cotta, wood, or plastic. These types of containers also resist rotting from exposure to light, which makes it an excellent choice for an indoor herb garden.

One of the biggest problems people have with herb gardens in containers is getting them to bloom and reproduce. A lot of herbs won’t reproduce unless you give them a greenhouse. However, most people are just fine growing their herbs in their natural environment indoors. If you want to start planting an indoor garden, you can simply buy some seeds from a garden center or a home improvement store. Many people prefer to go to a garden center because it allows them to get herbs for their entire kitchen garden in one trip instead of trying to figure out how to mix them together.

Some other herbs you might consider growing in mason jars are Rosemary, sage, dill, and garlic. All of these herbs can be started growing in a separate container and then after they’ve bloomed a few times in the spring moved them into mason jars. It’s a great way to introduce different types of herbs to your kitchen without having to replant everything. Keep in mind though that each plant needs its own pots. Pots need to be filled with water and fertilizer to help them grow.

After you’ve placed the herbs in the jars and given them a couple of weeks to begin to grow, you’ll need to mix them up. Most people simply grab the first pot they find and throw it in the back of the vehicle. This isn’t the best way to mix your herbs because it may take several pots before you finally find a mixture that works. If you’re going to use a mason jar herb garden to make your own herbal teas or potpourris, then you’ll need to mix your herbs up according to the herb’s needs. If you’re just growing herbs for decoration in the kitchen, then you can simply grab a pot, pour in your soil and let them go. Before you know it you’ll have a beautiful garden full of herbs that you can enjoy for years to come.
