Can you use flower potting soil for vegetables? It is a viable idea. In fact, I have even heard of growing vegetables in the pot. There are many advantages to be found when you plant your veggies in this way.
Flowering plants are much easier to care for. This is because you have more surface area to work with. Instead of working with a limited amount of dirt, you have ample amounts of both topsoil and base soil to help with your work. You do not have to use the same amount of water or nutrients that you would if you were growing your vegetable garden in a soil that was very limiting to plant life. Can you use potting soil for vegetable gardening?
If you have never tried this before, I encourage you to give it a shot. The first time I planted a vegetable, I followed a plan online. I know that planting container gardens is not rocket science, but I did have to follow it in order to make sure that I got the results that I wanted.
One of the things I learned from reading this plan is that you should use a light sand mix. That may seem like common sense to most people, but the truth is that some gardeners prefer to use clay to help retain moisture. I like to use clay as well. So, if you want to use flower potting soil for your vegetable garden, it will come down to what you like more. Some people like the light sand, while others want to use clay.
I have two plants that I love to grow. They are both tomatoes and they are the smallest plants I have. You will have to decide if you want to use a light sand or heavy clay potting soil. I also learned that the lighter the potting soil, the less water your tomato plants will need to be hydrated. This is true for all plants, but it is especially true for the smallest ones.
I decided that my biggest plant, the tomato, needed the lightest potting soil, so I used flower potting soil for them. My second tomato plant, the broccoli, needed a little more water. I used the medium type. This type of potting soil is good for larger plants. I was able to put the broccoli in the bottom row of my container garden.
To determine if you can use flower potting soil for your plants, you will have to be able to see what they are being exposed to. I use my greenhouse to do this. I took some pictures to look at. In one of them you can see that the broccoli plant has been in direct sunlight most of the time.
That’s not to say that you shouldn’t do what you can to expose your plants to the sun. This will help with the hydration of your plant. I just think that using flower potting soil for container gardening might be worth considering. It’s been my experience that the medium type does a pretty good job. I just don’t know that much about the light side of things. What I know is that if you do your homework, you should be able to make your plants work better with the types of potting soils that you can get.
When I was growing carrots in the greenhouse, I had to be very careful about watering them. They would dehydrate very quickly if I didn’t. The best way to make sure that your plants stay healthy is to take them outside. You should also use fertilizer when you are planting them. This will help them grow faster and keep producing leaves.
Some people will tell you that you can use flower potting soil for plants that you are not growing in the greenhouse. In my opinion, it might be okay to do this. If you’re not going to be growing anything that needs to stay indoors all year long, then you can put some of that soil in the greenhouse to use as mulch. Just make sure that the mulch is completely organic and not something that could burn or rot.
Flower potting soil can be used for just about any vegetable or flower that you want to grow. My favorite vegetables are strawberries and herbs. They grow really well in containers but if you have a greenhouse, you can take them year round. I don’t know anyone who grows fruits or vegetables that don’t like to eat them. I enjoy growing all types of vegetables, so make sure that you can use flower potting soil for them.
